About me
I'm Alberto Maqueda Roldán, from Alicante, Spain.
A perfectionist with an eye for detail, I like to feel good about what I do. Quite extroverted, I work very well in a team. Leading doesn't intimidate me — quite the opposite, I enjoy challenges; they motivate you and help you grow and improve.
Curious by nature, I like to understand how everything around me works. I'm always learning, and I need to consider all possibilities to find the best solution.
History
When I was 11, my parents gave me my first computer — a fantastic monochrome green 386 at 33MHz, very Matrix-style... My first steps in computing :)
In high school I started getting interested in programming. The Internet was just taking off and I got into web pages. So I set up my own test server on Linux with Apache, MySQL... and spent some time playing with HTML. Though I didn't really "program" until I was 17, when I discovered PHP, back in 1999.
My first website was for our group of friends, around the year 2000. We uploaded photos, commented on them, arranged meetups... Sound familiar?
In 2001 I started a Computer Science degree in Alicante, the Systems track. A few months in I started working at a small software company. At first I was limited to Crystal Reports, then spent some time in support, and after a few years I was programming in Visual Basic 6.
By then I had passed all my programming subjects, but I needed to improve, and VB6 wasn't enough... So I started with VB.Net. At first only at home, and from 2004 increasingly at work. My first .Net program, designed for support management, is still in use today...
By 2013 my level as a VB.Net developer was quite high, but I needed to evolve, keep improving and find motivation again. Outside of work I picked up Web Development with CakePHP and the MVC model. But it fell short for the project I had in mind, so I switched to Yii. Then I discovered Python+Django and liked it, but the project was cancelled...
In 2014, also outside of work, I worked as a Backend and Frontend developer on websites, Magento, WordPress... I also did personal projects in VB.Net, practising with WPF. And since I can't sit still, in 2015 I started with Laravel and Drupal.
At the end of 2015 I finally made up my mind and reached out to 3dids, a reference web agency in Alicante. I did a test and they liked me, so I started working with them at the beginning of 2016. Although I touched everything, I specialised in connectors and code quality. After the summer I moved to Head of Development — a real honour to manage people with so much talent, and keep learning.
At the end of 2016, an opportunity came up to be part of a new project with very good professionals — and even better people. Backed by Tecon, a great family company with significant resources that believed in us. And as a Microsoft partner, I could stay close to the .Net world. So in January 2017 I joined Agencia ékiba, where I stayed until July 2019, mainly working on Magento, surrounded by outstanding professionals — but above all, great friends.
In August 2019 I joined Roi Up, a company headquartered in Madrid where from day one I felt very comfortable. I enjoy the "Madrid pace" for continuing to improve in Magento, with major national and international projects and above all great colleagues.
During 2024 I stepped back from hands-on development and moved into a Tech Lead role, which has allowed me to keep growing and learning about new technologies. Making a radical switch to JS, with Strapi and Next.js.
In 2025 I moved to Sitecore projects, another great challenge as Tech Lead. C# and Visual Studio reminded me of my early days, though adapting to the Sitecore way. Taking the opportunity to develop components, forms, search...
In 2026 we moved from ROI UP Group to Azurally to keep growing and improving :) As Tech Lead, though whenever I can I try to keep learning and doing some hands-on development. In this phase, very much aligned with Artificial Intelligence, in sync with the company and colleagues :)
